Building What’s Next: A Look at the Future of Condensate Management

May 18th 2026

Condensate management may not be the most visible part of an HVACR system, but it’s becoming one of the most critical. As the industry evolves with higher-efficiency equipment, new refrigerant regulations, and more complex installations, the demand for condensate solutions is changing fast. With these demands come the need for smarter pumps—intelligent and efficient—that are raising the bar for condensate management.

So, we sat down with Jeff Ponce, Category Leader for Condensate Management at The Malco Group, to get his perspective on what HVACR pros are facing right now, how the industry is evolving, and what to expect with the next generation of Aspen Mini Pumps.

Check out more from our interview with Jeff below.

What originally drew you to condensate management and the tools that support the trade?

Jeff: Living more than half my life in Florida gave me firsthand experience with condensate issues in HVAC systems. I was the lucky one in the family to attach the shop vac hose to the end of the line to clear the clog. It wasn’t until I entered the trade that I realized how universal this issue is across the entire industry. That sparked a passion in me to not just find quick fixes, but to truly understand the science behind why these systems fail and how we can innovate to create better solutions.

What emerging technologies or trends do you think will have the biggest impact on the future of condensate management and HVAC pump systems?

Jeff: We’re seeing advanced sensing technology become standard across industries, which is driving costs down and making it possible to bring smarter technology into HVAC applications. The same type of capacitive sensing technology used in automotive systems and even smartphones is now being integrated into Aspen’s next-generation condensate pumps.

That’s where the industry is headed — toward smarter, more adaptive systems. These pumps can automatically respond to changing condensate loads, adjusting speed and output in real time based on what the system actually needs. We’re even getting close to predictive performance capabilities, where the pump can anticipate demand before issues occur. It’s a major shift from traditional “on/off” operation to intelligent, responsive technology designed to improve performance, efficiency, and reliability.

How has feedback from technicians in the field shaped the way you approach product development?

Jeff: Everything I’ve learned has come from the field. Whether I’m shadowing technicians during a product install, talking to them about their issues, or getting hands-on myself, I see the real-world struggles installers face every day. This perspective guides my view that it isn’t enough to design a great product on paper; it must be designed to thrive in a tough work environment. Technicians are the true product developers if we simply take the time to listen to them.

Where do you see the biggest opportunities today to improve condensate management and solutions for technicians in the field?

Jeff: The biggest opportunity lies in providing more reliable solutions for biofilm growth, which is the root cause of most clogs and flooding. Many current solutions rely on manual chemical or enzyme treatments that often result in a relapse if maintenance isn't perfectly consistent. I believe the next step is automating these treatments to create a more "set it and forget it" solution for both the technician and the homeowner.

What excites you most about joining The Malco Group and leading the strategy and growth of the condensate management category?

Jeff: I see The Malco Group on a growth trajectory that will lead us to becoming a definitive leader in the HVAC space. We are bringing together high-quality, well-known brands with talent who are leading experts in their respective fields. For me, it is incredibly exciting to be part of a story that is still being written and to work toward making that vision a reality.

Outside of work, what’s something you’re passionate about or enjoy doing in your spare time?

Jeff: You can usually find me outdoors, whether I’m out on the lakes, cycling, or on the golf course. I also enjoy traveling and being able to explore new places around the world. Beyond that, I am the cook in the family and will usually be volunteered to make complex dishes for families and friends.

Big thanks to Jeff for taking the time to sit down with us and share his perspective. The work he’s doing to advance our condensate management category is making a real impact across The Malco Group.
